  • Marine Habitat Protection & Boating Advisory

As the popularity of the Dune Peninsula concert series grows, some boaters have begun anchoring offshore to experience the shows. While we understand the appeal, anchoring in this area poses significant risks to both the marine environment and the structural integrity of the hillside.

Dune Peninsula Park was developed as part of an EPA-led environmental remediation of the former Asarco smelter site. This included capping contaminated soil and installing rock armoring to stabilize the hillside and protect the newly established marine wildlife habitat along the north shoreline.

Parks Tacoma strongly discourages anchoring or gathering by boat, paddleboard, or kayak near the concert area during events or at any time. The rocky shoreline and sensitive cap system make anchoring unsafe and potentially damaging to both the habitat and hillside foundation.

For your safety and the protection of this unique environment, Tacoma Police will have a patrol boat on-site during concerts to provide education and ensure compliance.
